Hair Loss
Hair loss or balding, also known as alopecia, affects many men and also women. Hairstyle can really help define who a person is, and hair loss can be a devastating event in many people’s lives. Self-esteem can be negatively affected, and social interactions may even be impacted.
Male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) can cause the frontal hairline to recede, and the hair on crown of the scalp often thins as well. Some women also experience this type of hair loss, while others notice thinning on the top of the scalp or along their part.
Many of Dr. Cooper’s patients have spent a considerable amount of money on Bosley hair loss products, Rogaine, hair loss shampoos, and/or Propecia without benefit. Looking for a definitive tangible answer to hair loss, they seek out the benefits of hair transplantation.
Hair transplantation may be an option for you depending on your pattern of alopecia, your age, expectations, and the viability of your donor hair.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) NeoGraft Hair Transplantation
Dr. Cooper offers hair transplantation at Sound Plastic surgery in Seattle. Follicular unit extraction involves removing hair units one at a time (each hair follicle contains between one and four hair shafts) from the donor site of the scalp located on the back of the head. These follicular units are then transplanted one at a time into the recipient site of the scalp located usually at the hairline and/or top of the scalp.
With the FUE method and NeoGraft technology, patients can undergo this procedure in our office’s procedure room under a local anesthetic. Our patients commonly play games on their phone or iPad during the transplantation process.
With the FUE and NeoGraft, our patients do not have any visible scarring on the back of the head compared to the traditional strip harvest method. There are no sutures to remove and no long incision that needs time to heal with associated activity restrictions. Recovery is quick, pain is truly minimal, and our patients our back at work a few days later.
Over the course of several months, you will see new hair grow and you will be impressed with your new look!
